Do you love music? Have you ever wondered how music is created?

Composing is much more than just writing down notes. It's a long journey of finding inspiration, crafting melodies and chords, searching for unique sounds, and finally, sharing a completed piece with the world. Like any creative journey, composers inevitably face obstacles along the way. To better understand these challenges, we interviewed 45 music creators.

Through these interviews, we quickly realized something interesting: If there are 100 composers, there are 100 unique ways of composing. This individuality became especially apparent in the early stages of composition. For instance, Composer A started by analyzing reference tracks, Composer B took inspiration from books or movies, while Composer C recorded spontaneous melodies whenever inspiration struck.

Though each approach differed, they shared one common trait: collecting and organizing diverse resources early in the creative process. Unfortunately, these resources were fragmented—scattered across notes, voice memos, folders, external hard drives, and notebooks. Composers often felt stuck when inspiration ran dry.

Recognizing this, eapy focused on one crucial pain point among composers: "Finding inspiration and organizing creative ideas."

'What if we created a dedicated space where creators could effortlessly generate ideas, collect and organize resources, and share them?'

Thus, eapy created a flexible workspace—like a digital whiteboard—where composers can freely upload various types of content such as images, text, audio, MIDI files, and links. Moreover, creators can generate musical ideas using AI and easily share their boards with collaborators.

We wanted to make composing accessible to everyone by solving fundamental challenges creators face. Our core messages became clear: "Make More Music Easier" and "Home for Music Creators."

Yet, as eapy evolved, we began seeing potential beyond a mere music composition tool. We asked ourselves: "Isn't there a greater value that only eapy can provide?" This question led us to reconsider the brand's direction and possibilities.

Discovering New Possibilities

1. Connecting and Building Relationships Among Composers

Music creation isn't a solitary journey. Composers interact with fellow creators, agencies, clients, fans, and listeners, exchanging feedback, sharing creative ideas, and collaborating on projects. Imagine a composer sharing their board with others—those who receive it could naturally become new eapy users, forming connections centered around music. Thus, eapy could become more than just an individual workspace. It has the potential to evolve into a vibrant community, bringing people together through music.

We realized these interactions revolve around two key dimensions: commercial vs. non-commercial and creator vs. non-creator, with music as the connecting factor.

These real-world use cases helped us realize that eapy holds greater potential as a highly versatile platform for creativity—going beyond a mere music composition tool.

3. Branding Strategy from a Market Perspective

At the heart of branding lies a clear understanding of which market you're targeting, who your audience is, and what message you aim to communicate. Initially, eapy positioned itself within the professional songwriting tools market—focusing on professional composers with branding centered around "professionalism" and emphasizing "functionality" over emotional appeal.

However, this meant eapy had to compete directly with specialized composing tools, which typically offer comprehensive, streamlined solutions covering composition from start to finish. Compared to these sophisticated tools, it was challenging for eapy to establish a clear technological advantage. Moreover, from a market-size perspective, the songwriting software market itself is relatively niche—approximately 30 times smaller than the broader music industry (based on Korean domestic figures).

Realizing this, we started rethinking eapy's brand positioning and exploring broader possibilities to leverage its unique strengths and expand its impact beyond the limits of traditional songwriting tools.

With these insights, we reconsidered eapy’s brand positioning to appeal more broadly and emotionally within the overall music market. This meant that eapy’s direct competition would no longer be specialized music-composition tools. Instead, our competitors became general-purpose creative platforms, such as whiteboard services and project management tools.

By positioning eapy as the first-ever music-centric creative board service, we clearly differentiate it from existing tools like Notion and Boardmix, while also reaching a much wider audience of music creators and enthusiasts alike.

With these possibilities clearly in view, we've realigned eapy’s brand strategy to fully embrace this expanded vision.
